A web public tool to size and assess the economic feasibility of CHEST system

A web tool to assess economic feasibility of CHEST systems in the simplest way is currently in development. The tool will be publicly available for all systems operating in European countries.

The web tool will allow us to study the CHEST systems on an energy, environmental and economic level. Intuitive and very user-friendly, it will not require any background technical knowledge. The system will have two options for working mode: with a basic data in a default mode, or with a more detailed information in an advance mode. The latter will provide greater accuracy in the result.

The working principle of CHEST systems is based on the accumulation of surplus electrical energy and low temperature thermal energy in a high temperature thermal energy storage; and subsequently, it can be used to generate electrical energy and low temperature thermal energy.

The calculation engine of CHEST web tool will have two types of networks: grid-connected and fully isolated power systems, which will be publicly available for European countries:

  • Isolated systems store electrical energy from a renewable source – photovoltaic system, wind turbine or both – and thermal energy from waste heat, solar thermal system, or biomass system. The stored energy at isolated systems can be used to cover electric or heat demand. In this case, CHEST systems allow to cover demand with surplus energy in times of low availability of renewable power and maximize the use of energy which would otherwise be wasted.
  • Grid-connected systems store electricity from grid and heat from waste heat, a solar thermal system, or a biomass system. The electrical energy produced at grid-connected systems is sold to grid and the produced heat can be used to cover an external heat demand. In this case, CHEST systems participate in short-term and spot electricity market to take advantage of the price difference between purchase and sale.

CHEST web tool is developed to disclosure and commercial purposes to encourage the implementation of such systems.
