TECNALIA is the leading private and independent research and technology organisation in Spain (and amongst the largest in Europe)that strives to generate impacts by means of innovation and technological development. TECNALIA's Energy and Environment Division carries out research in fields such as high-efficiency thermal and electrical energy resources, RES penetration, energy storage, management of energy generation and distribution networks, etc. TECNALIA owns and exploits a Thermal Laboratory which allows evaluating energy efficiency, heat losses and functional controls of thermal systems like heat pumps, air handling units, sensible, latent or thermochemical heat storage systems, etc. CHESTER high-temperature heat pump prototype will be developed and tested at this laboratory.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. In addition to its own research, as Germany’s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility by the federal government for the planning and implementation of the German space programme. DLR is also the umbrella organisation for the nation’s largest project management agency. DLR has approximately 8000 employees at 20 locations in Germany. DLR also has offices in Brussels, Paris, Tokyo and Washington D.C.
IREN is a multi-utility company operating in the sectors of electricity (production, distribution and sale), thermal energy for district heating (production and sale), gas (regasification, distribution and sale), management of integrated water services, environmental services (collection and disposal of waste) and energy services. IREN is structured as an industrial parent company with its main corporate offices in Reggio Emilia, operating units in Genoa, Parma, Piacenza, and Torino, and separate companies in charge of the individual business lines. IREN S.p.A. handles strategic, development, coordination and monitoring activities, while the four operating companies ensure the coordination and development of business lines.
The Institute of Thermodynamics and Thermal Engineering (ITW) of the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT) mainly conducts research in the fields of thermal solar components and systems, thermal energy storage, energy conversion systems, innovative heating and cooling technologies and fundamental research on heat transfer mechanisms. Part of ITW is the Research and Testing Centre for Thermal Solar Systems (TZS). Besides its broad research activities, the TZS is on university level European-wide the largest Testing Centre for Thermal Solar Systems.
PlanEnergi is a private independent consultancy company specialized in energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy. The company is a non-profit foundation established in 1983, and with 30 employees in three offices in Denmark. Main working areas are strategic energy planning for regions and municipalities and design and implementation of hybrid energy systems integrating electricity, heat and transport, using RES and large thermal storages.
Aiguasol is a self-managed cooperative company that offers engineering and energy consulting services. Founded in 1999, Aiguasol is made up of more than 20 professionals with high-level technical and scientific experience. Through a horizontal and socially responsible structure, we maintain an independent stance and promote innovative solutions to reduce the impact of energy consumption. Aiguasol’s independence and high scientific rigor confer it a recognized position of neutrality and objectivity in the sector. Our aim is to create indoor and outdoor spaces and to devise exceptional, comfortable and efficient systems and processes that have a positive impact on the environment.
Encontech BV is a high-tech company established in 2008. The core business of Encontech is the research and development of the fundamentally new heat engines and chemical reactors. Simplicity, low cost and very wide application area are distinguishing features of the engines. They capable of operating from arbitrary heat sources starting from 60°C at power range up to several MV. Encontech is also the international knowledge holder on the pulse compression technology - a fundamentally new chemical reactor concept based on the principle of rapid compressive heating and subsequent expansive cooling.
Ghent University is a top 100 university counting over 41,000 students and 9,000 employees. It is one of the major universities in Belgium. Our 11 faculties offer a wide range of courses and conduct in-depth research within a wide range of scientific domains. Ghent University occupies a specific position among the Flemish universities. We are a socially committed and pluralistic university that is open to all students, regardless of their ideological, political, cultural or social background.

The Institute for Energy Engineering, located at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain) has a wide experience both experimentally and numerically in heat pump and refrigeration systems, as well as in thermal energy storage, control and optimization of complex energy systems.
The Centre for Sustainable Technologies with a staff of 30 academics, researchers etc. has considerable laboratory facilities for the investigation of novel solar energy technologies, biomass gasification, bio-oils from seeds and nuts, advanced glazing systems, thermodynamic cycles and engines, thermal energy storage, energy market modelling and energy system generation including carbon capture and storage. For heat pumps, there are dedicated laboratories and test chambers to evaluated their performance according to test standards with facilities that include a high temperature refrigerant test facility.
PNO has grown from a start-up to a market leader in innovation and funding services in Europe, with offices in 6 European countries. PNO is connected to a global network of national and regional creative partners: multinationals, start-ups, RTOs and universities, sector and public organisations. From this unique network, we work on fostering connections and stimulating, realising and financing innovation in the more complex innovation landscape – changing the world for the better. Our people are the heart of our company; they are not just experts in their field but are also dedicated to contributing to the societal challenges.
GoiEner is a cooperative which is concerned with the generation and consumption of renewable energy, and with the objective of reclaiming energy sovereignty. We want citizens to regain control over this basic need and to make them aware of its importance, thus promoting a responsible and sustainable consumption of energy. We actively collaborate in our local environment with institutions and organizations to carry out interesting projects. In addition to this, our model has received two awards in social innovation. We are currently members of ResCoop and Union Renovables.
